Scottish Comic Book Creator Millarworld köpt av Netflix

Det Coatbridge-baserade företaget, som står bakom den framgångsrika kick-ass och Kingsman, är det första förvärvet av den amerikanska streamingjätten.

USA: s streaming media och video-on-demand online-jätten Netflix har förvärvat Millarworld, serietidningens utgivare grundad av Scots-konstnären Mark Milllar i ett försök att öka sina alternativ i originalfilm och TV-innehåll.

Affären, för en icke avslöjad summa, kommer att tillåta Millar och hans fru och affärspartner Lucy att skapa filmer, TV -program och annat innehåll baserat på franchises under Millarworld -varumärket.

I ett uttalande beskrev Netflixs Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos Millar som “så nära du kan komma till en modern Stan Lee”, en hänvisning till den legendariska Marvel Comics Publisher. “Vi kan inte vänta med att utnyttja den kreativa kraften i Millarworld till Netflix och starta en ny era i Global Storytelling.

Affären markerar första gången Netflix har gjort ett förvärv av ett företag, en del av sina ansträngningar för att lägga till mer originalinnehåll till tjänsten eftersom den konkurrerar med rivaler inklusive Amazon och Hulu.
